PESHAWAR (Muhammad Ijaz Afridi): Following the end of the term for elected local government representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s city, tehsil, village, and neighbourhood councils, the government has delegated administrative powers to various officials. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Department has issued a notification regarding this transfer of powers.
According to the notification, the term of the local government institutions ended on March 15, 2026. An interim administrative structure has been established to manage city affairs until a newly elected local government is formed. The powers of the Mayor of the Capital Metropolitan Government of Peshawar have been handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar. Additionally, the responsibilities of the city’s local government have been assigned to the concerned Deputy Commissioner and Tehsil Municipal Officers.
Administrative matters for the tehsil local government will be managed by the Assistant Commissioners and Tehsil Municipal Officers, while the affairs of the village and neighbourhood councils will be overseen by the Assistant Director of Senior Local Government. This interim arrangement will remain in effect until new local government representatives are elected and take office.
