Records sought from the Capital Metropolitan Government of Peshawar after serious allegations surfaced regarding contracts in various developmental scheme Peshawar metropolitan.
These schemes involve the provision of basic amenities in various union councils of the city and its suburbs. After serious allegations surfaced regarding the contracts of ongoing development projects under the District Development Initiative in Peshawar, the provincial government has started an investigation.
Complete records of 31 development projects worth more than Rs 1 billion have been sought from the Capital Metropolitan Government of Peshawar. In a letter received from the Capital Metropolitan Government, Peshawar, it has been stated that notices inviting tenders of all approved schemes, comparative statements, work orders, before and after photos of the projects, and GPS coordinates should be provided so that the progress and transparency of development works can be reviewed.
According to officials, these schemes include construction and repair of roads, paving of streets, construction of drains and culverts for drainage, side walls, sanitation and sanitation projects, rehabilitation of crematoriums and community centers, water supply schemes, and provision of other basic amenities in various union councils of the city and suburban areas. Solarization and welfare measures are also included in several areas. The total cost of these projects is estimated at Rs 1.145 billion, of which huge amounts ranging from Rs 5 million to Rs 50 million have been allocated for various schemes.
In addition, one scheme also includes the purchase of sewing machines and wheelchairs for women and disabled people. The development works include union councils of Haryana, Khazana Gul Bahar, Shalimar Bagh, Hassan, Garhi, Chamkani, Matni, Badhabir, Faqirabad, Hazar Khawani, University Town, Tehkal, Daag, Maryamzai, Urmuz, Mashogar, and other urban and rural areas.
According to sources, the purpose of requesting records from the relevant authorities is to investigate serious allegations raised on contracts, ensure transparent and effective use of funds, and inform the public about the real status of development work.
