PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, visited the Special Education Complex in Peshawar to formally launch the “Ehsaas Umaid Program” for children with disabilities.
Under this initiative, 10,000 individuals with severe disabilities will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000. The funds will be transferred directly to beneficiaries through biometric verification.
The program has a budget of Rs 300 million, covering the period from January to June 2026. Beneficiaries will be selected based on the Zakat Management Information System. During his visit, the Chief Minister also handed over 23 new vehicles for schools catering to special children, with Rs 377 million allocated for the purchase of these transport vehicles. Additionally, 2,000 electric wheelchairs, 2,500 manual wheelchairs, and 800 tricycles have been provided for the disabled, totalling Rs 760 million spent on assistive devices and equipment.
The Chief Minister emphasised that Imran Khan’s commitment to supporting weaker sections of society is a guiding principle for their efforts. He urged the immediate distribution of available funds from the Zakat Fund to deserving individuals and ordered the provision of assistive devices to disabled people in the merged districts.
The provincial government is committed to utilising its own resources for these initiatives despite owing more than 3,000 billion rupees to the federal government. He also pointed out that the federal government has been implicated in corruption amounting to 5,300 billion rupees, yet no actions are being taken against it.
Transport facilities will be provided for schools in the merged districts, and the Chief Minister has directed that all missing facilities in schools for special children be provided immediately.
