PESHAWAR:” To avoid any negligence unlike Sindh government, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government declared to inspect dangerous and dilapidated buildings and strictly enforce fire safety laws to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property.

In this regard, the Land Use and Building Control Authority has sent a formal letter to the Chief Planning Control Officers and relevant authorities.

The letter issued by the authority states that the Gul Plaza incident in Karachi caused widespread damage to precious human lives and property, which has highlighted the urgent need for effective and strict implementation of building safety laws. The letter clarifies that immediate steps are essential to prevent such tragedies.

The Land Use and Building Control Authority has directed that the Chief Planning Control Officers should conduct a detailed inspection of dangerous and dilapidated buildings in their respective districts and those buildings whose condition is not suitable for human habitation should be declared unsafe immediately.

According to the letter, the availability of suitable routes has been made mandatory to ensure safe evacuation from buildings in emergency situations. Special attention has been directed to be paid to commercial and high-rise buildings, where the presence of effective and adequate fire safety systems will be ensured.

The authority has further directed that all buildings should have fire alarm systems, effective fire extinguishing equipment, stairs, corridors and other necessary safety arrangements for emergency evacuation. Along with this, it has also been emphasized to maintain close contact with the district administration, police, levies and civil defense so that immediate and effective action can be taken in any emergency situation.

According to the authorities, the aim of these measures is to ensure safety arrangements before possible accidents and protect the lives and property of the public.
