The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department issued a notification on Thursday announcing the approval of the Policy for Integration of Pharmacy Services in Health Facilities by the Provincial Cabinet. This decision is made in accordance with Rule 25(3) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Rules of Business, 1985.
The primary goal of this policy is to strengthen and improve Hospital and Clinical Services, enhance Drug Control Administration, and ensure the effective implementation of drug laws and regulations. It aims to standardise quality assurance mechanisms to guarantee the continuous availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines, as well as to optimise the efficient use of human resources in the best interest of the public.
The detailed policy document is now available for public information and can be accessed on the official website of the Health Department.
In a statement by the KP government, the policy was termed a milestone achieved by the prevailing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which they said would benefit the masses.
It mentioned that under this policy, the provision of quality, effective and affordable medicines will be ensured in hospitals and health facilities across the province, the duration of patients’ stay in hospitals will be reduced, the drug control and surveillance system will be further strengthened, and effective measures will be taken against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
