PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Anti-Corruption Department are committed to upholding the rule of law in cases of electoral maladministration. Actions against such misconduct will proceed in accordance with the law.

In response to multiple complaints regarding electoral maladministration from constituencies PK-79 and PK-82, the Anti-Corruption Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initiated investigations and actions against the relevant Presiding and Returning Officers.

In the meantime, four officers sought relief from the Peshawar High Court, claiming that the anti-corruption operation was illegal and should be halted. Although the court issued a preliminary decision, formal written orders received by the Anti-Corruption Department on Friday, October 3, confirmed that the department could continue its operations as mandated by law.

Following this court ruling, the Anti-Corruption Department plans to broaden its investigation into electoral maladministration in additional constituencies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including PK-79 and PK-82.

Brigadier (R) Muhammad Mosaddiq Abbasi, the Anti-Corruption Adviser, has urged all relevant parties, particularly the members of the Provincial Assembly elected under Form 45, to submit written applications to the Anti-Corruption Department if they possess any evidence or information regarding electoral irregularities. According to the law, the Anti-Corruption Department can only act on cases when a formal complaint has been submitted in writing.
