The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken a major decision to temporarily change the working hours of all public and private universities and degree-awarding institutions across the province due to the severe shortage of fuel in the country and the recent increase in prices.

According to a regular notification issued by the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department, now all higher educational institutions and colleges across the province will remain completely closed for two days a week, namely Friday and Saturday.

The announcement has clarified that an alternative teaching method will be adopted to save fuel, under which universities have been directed to give priority to hybrid or online classes during the remaining days of the week. According to the spokesperson of the Office of the Minister for Higher Education and Local Government, this decision has been taken in view of the difficulties in fuel supply and increasing travel costs, so that the educational process is not affected, and the pressure on energy reserves can also be reduced.

This decision will be applicable for an initial period of two months, and all the Vice Chancellors and heads of the concerned institutions have been directed to ensure immediate implementation of these new instructions. These arrangements will remain in place till further notification is issued by the government.
