PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has responded to rumours about a potential change in his position. When journalists in Peshawar inquired about his possible removal from the governorship, he smiled and stated that he had not received any formal information regarding this matter.
Kundi remarked that if the media begins appointing and removing governors, then “Allah is the Hafiz,” emphasising that such news is merely circulating and that no official consultation or decision has been communicated to him.
He added that, while various names are being discussed in the media, he remains bound by the decisions of his party. Kundi made it clear that if the party leadership decides to remove him from this position, he will accept it willingly.
He acknowledged that government positions are temporary and stressed that the true priority lies in the strength of institutions and public service. It is worth noting that national and private media channels have been prominently reporting that the federal government is considering changes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which includes the possibility of a new governor.
According to sources from TV channels, six names are currently under consideration for the new governor’s position, including three political figures and three former military officers.
The political candidates include former Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti, Qaumi Watan Party chief Aftab Sherpao, and former Federal Defense Minister Pervez Khattak. Meanwhile, the military candidates comprise former Corps Commander of Peshawar, Lieutenant General (retd) Khalid Rabbani, former Inspector General Frontier Corps Lieutenant General (retd) Ghayur Mahmood, and Lieutenant General (retd) Tariq Khan.
However, a final decision has not yet been made, and reports indicate that consultations are ongoing at the government level regarding these changes. The current situation suggests that political activities in the province are evolving rapidly, making the upcoming days particularly significant.
