PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi refutes news regarding Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said that no decision have been taken in this regard.

The rumors circulating regarding Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have once again proven to be baseless. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Humayun Khan and the province’s Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have both clarified that neither consultation has been held at any level on this issue nor any decision is under consideration.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, while talking to the media, said that he only hears news regarding Governor’s Rule in the province on TV and so far no government or party-level consultation has taken place. He further said that there is a provision for Governor’s rule in the constitution, but no such decision is under consideration at present. Governor Kundi explained that he came to know about the news regarding the change of governor through the media and such speculations keep coming up every few months.

Faisal Karim Kundi warned that the overall situation in the province does not allow for protests, there are several issues including law and order, so no proposal for Governor’s rule was under discussion.

Similarly, Pakistan People’s Party Secretary General Humayun Khan also said in a conversation with the media that the party has not had any discussions regarding Governor’s rule or the change of the governor and the party is working for the consolidation of the democratic system in the country.

He clarified that there is scope for Governor’s rule in the constitution and it can be implemented in any province according to the circumstances, but currently there is no consultation or decision in this regard.

Speculations are being made in political circles that if for any reason there is a need to change the governor, the first priority will be to retain the current Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.

According to sources, if their names are not agreed upon, the names of Amir Haider Hoti, Pervez Khattak and Aftab Sherpao may come under consideration. According to some sources, if a political consensus is not reached, the names of former military officers such as Lt. Gen. (retd) Khalid Rabbani, Lt. Gen. (retd) Ghayur Mahmood and Lt. Gen. (retd) Tariq Khan may also come under consideration. However, sources in the Prime Minister’s Office say that no matter is under consideration regarding Governor’s rule at present.

This position makes it clear that the rumors of Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are mere speculations and there is no such decision from the provincial government or the party leadership.
