PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally constituted the Local Government Commission in the province.

The Local Government Department has said in a statement that the commission has been formed under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2013 and it will assume its powers and responsibilities immediately. According to the statement, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Meena Khan Afridi will be appointed as the chairman of the commission, while the Director General of Local Government and RDD will be responsible as the secretary of the commission.

The commission includes MPA Muhammad Idrees, Ahmed Kundi, Hafizur Rehman, and Ayesha Bano as members and part of the commission. Representatives of the Secretary of Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Secretary Local Government, Elections and RDD are also included in the commission, and a representative of the Finance Department will also be part of this commission.

According to the announcement, the Directorate General of Local Government will provide secretariat support to the Commission, and the Commission will work to ensure the monitoring, transparency, and accountability of local government institutions in the province. This initiative aims to further strengthen transparent governance, better performance, and public service delivery in local government institutions.

The formation of the commission will help strengthen the system of local government institutions in the province, increase financial and administrative accountability, and transparency in policymaking. The authorities have assured the citizens that the activities of the commission will make local government institutions more effective and accountable, which will improve the welfare of the people.
