PESHAWAR: Teams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority have carried out major operations against unhealthy and substandard spices and ketchup production units in Peshawar city.

These raids were conducted on intelligence-based, as a result of which several substandard products were seized and actions were taken. Food safety teams raided spice manufacturing units in different areas of Peshawar. During these raids, 400 kg of adulterated spices, bran (fertilizer), and used oil were seized. Substandard ingredients were being used in the preparation of these spices, which could pose a serious threat to public health. According to the spokesperson, action was taken to destroy all these products, and legal action is being taken against the concerned units.

Action was also taken against two units that were manufacturing fake tomato ketchup. 1200 liters of fake tomato ketchup were seized from these units, which were based on unhealthy ingredients. Substandard and unhealthy chemicals were being used in the manufacturing of this ketchup, which were extremely dangerous for consumption.

The fake tomato ketchup was destroyed on the spot, and both units were sealed. The spokesperson added that legal action has also been initiated against these units to prevent the manufacturing and sale of such unhealthy products in the future. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has warned the public to always use quality and certified products and to avoid items containing such unhealthy ingredients.

These actions are a testament to the fact that food safety teams are taking vigorous measures to improve public health, and such actions will be further expanded to prevent the manufacture, supply, and sale of substandard and unsafe products.
