PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, has said the province is confronting serious challenges, including terrorism and the impacts of climate change.

Responding to remarks made at an opposition press conference, Shafi Jan highlighted the difficulties faced by residents of Tirah Maidan in Khyber district due to heavy snowfall.

Shafi Jan said that Chief Minister Afridi is personally monitoring the situation from Peshawar and that rescue teams from multiple districts are assisting in relief efforts.

He added that affected residents have been shifted to safer locations and temporary shelters, as displacement became unavoidable in certain areas due to intense snowfall.

Addressing opposition claims regarding terrorism and military operations, Shafi Jan stressed that the provincial government’s stance is clear and transparent.

Shafi Jan said the provincial government bore all expenses related to displacement caused by military operations in Bajaur.

He challenged other provinces and forums to compare governance performance, asserting that the KP government has repeatedly issued an open challenge in this regard.

He added that the action amounted to inviting environmental destruction, especially when Pakistan was already facing severe impacts of climate change.

Shafi Jan said that protecting the environment was a fundamental responsibility of governments.
