PESHAWAR: On the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administration have established a modern transit camp in Landi Kotal, near Hamza Baba Mazar in Khyber district, to facilitate Afghan families returning to Afghanistan.
The camp has been set up to ensure an organized and dignified repatriation process for undocumented Afghan nationals residing across Pakistan. From the facility, families are transported to Afghanistan through the Torkham border.
According to officials, the transit camp is equipped with basic facilities including food, clean drinking water, medical services, washrooms, parking areas and designated waiting spaces for families.
Authorities have been directed to ensure that every family receives the necessary support during the process.
Following recent rainfall that created difficulties for the returning families, the district administration promptly shifted affected individuals to a Rescue 1122 under-construction building to protect them from further adverse weather.
Officials from the district administration, PDMA, NADRA, FIA and other relevant departments have been deployed at the site to oversee the repatriation process.
Meanwhile, the PDMA is also arranging waterproof canopies at the transit camp to deal with possible weather-related challenges and ensure the smooth continuation of the repatriation process.
Sources said the provincial government aims to ensure that all returning families depart for their homeland in a safe, organized and comfortable environment, describing the initiative as part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s public welfare policy.
