‎Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi has sent a formal letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to facilitate family meetings with Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

‎In the letter, the Chief Minister has pointed out that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are currently under detention in Adiala Jail, and the issue of family meetings with them has been raised earlier to ensure compliance with legal requirements and principles of humanitarianism.

‎The Chief Minister said in his letter that Eid-ul-Fitr is an important religious festival, on which the right to meet family and close relatives should be given, which is also the legal right of detainees.

‎He further pointed out that despite the orders of the courts and the rules of the prison manual, prisoners are being deprived of meeting their families, medical facilities and other basic rights, which is a cause for concern.

‎The letter, citing relevant provisions of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 and the Prisons Act 1894, stated that it is a legal obligation for prisoners to meet their relatives, be treated humanely and provide them with adequate medical facilities.

‎The Chief Minister asked the Prime Minister to issue instructions to the relevant authorities so that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi could be given the right to meet their families as per the law.
