PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Sunday announced a massive increase in the compensation for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Bajaur district.
According to a statement issued by the KP government on Sunday, a Jirga was convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi, comprising parliamentarians, national leaders and elders of Bajaur district.
The participants of the jirga expressed full confidence in the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and assured full cooperation. The jirga discussed in detail the law and order situation in the province, the improvement of Pak-Afghan relations and the overall development strategy.
The Chief Minister announced that the assistance amount for the reconstruction of houses partially affected by the recent operation in Bajaur has been increased from Rs 160,000 to Rs 500,000.
The participants presented their valuable suggestions for establishing permanent peace. The Chief Minister stated that tribal leaders, the people, the police, and security forces have made significant sacrifices for the establishment of peace in the province.
“Thanks to these sacrifices, complete peace had been established in the country in 2018, but now attempts are being made to deliberately spoil the situation,” CM KP said and clarified that decisions taken in closed rooms have always worsened the situation. The effective way to establish peace and order is to take joint decisions by taking the tribal elders and the provincial government into confidence. They will not be part of any failed policy.
He said the role of the people of Bajaur and tribal elders for peace and order was commendable. At the time of the FATA merger, a promise of Rs 100 billion was made annually, but in the last seven years, only Rs 168 billion was given, while Rs 532 billion were still outstanding with the centre. The federal government is not providing funds even under the AIP.
The Chief Minister issued instructions to increase the age limit for police recruitment in the merged districts, accelerate work on the Bajaur martyrs package, and provide security to tribal elders who play a role in establishing peace and national development.
Mr Afridi said the existing schools and hospitals under the Roshan Qaabi package for the merged districts will be improved so that the people can get quality facilities.
