PESHAWAR (Kashifuddin Syed): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish a joint inspectorate to ensure transparency and effective monitoring of matriculation and intermediate examinations conducted by all eight education boards in the province, including Peshawar.

Under the new system, the previous practice of appointing teachers as monitors has been abolished. Primary and middle school government teachers will no longer perform duties as invigilators during examinations. However, Secondary School Teachers (SSTs) and Learning Support (LS) teachers will be assigned responsibilities as superintendents and deputy superintendents.

According to sources in the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, teachers will not be given the role of inspectors or monitors for examination centres. Instead, a joint inspectorate established under the Education Monitoring Authority (EMA) will oversee all monitoring matters to promote transparency, impartiality and accountability in the examination system.

Officials said the joint inspectorate will comprise District Complaint Monitoring Officers, District Monitoring Officers, District Education Officers, school leaders, District Disaster Management officials and other relevant officers. These officials will conduct surprise visits to examination centres to review measures for the prevention of cheating, staff attendance, security arrangements and implementation of examination rules.

Under the EMA framework, action reports will be uploaded to a central dashboard, enabling higher authorities to directly monitor the situation and make timely decisions.
