The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) have issued a rainfall alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas from March 25 to March 30, 2026.
A strong westerly wind has entered the province, due to which the following changes in the weather are expected:
Thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected in plain areas including Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat and DI Khan.
Intermittent rain in the mountains are expected in Upper Districts: Swat, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad.
Strong winds are expected during the rain, which may damage weak structures (such as electricity poles or solar panels).
Snowfall and rain are forecast in Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Ghazar, Skardu, Hunza and Shigar on March 25 and 26, and again from March 28 to 30.
Landslide Risk: Due to heavy rains, landslides are likely in sensitive hilly areas of Gilgit-Baltistan including Malakand and Hazara divisions, which may lead to road closures.
Those traveling to the northern areas or inter-districts should check the road conditions with the Motorway Police or the concerned district administration.
PDMA also directed to avoid staying near rivers and canals and be alert for flooding in rainwater canals.
