Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is bracing for a fresh spell of rain as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and PDMA have issued a province-wide alert.
A strong westerly wave is currently impacting the northern and western districts, bringing a sudden drop in temperature and a return to winter-like conditions.
Scattered to widespread rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected across most districts including Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, and Abbottabad.
Significant rainfall is predicted for the mountainous regions, including Swat, Kalam, Dir, Chitral, and the upper reaches of Hazara division. Peshawar is seeing a daytime high of approximately 21°C, dropping to a chilly 9°C at night—significantly cooler than last week’s mild spell.
The rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist in the northern districts (Malakand and Hazara divisions) through Tuesday morning. Conditions are expected to become partly cloudy as the main system begins to shift eastward, though isolated thundershowers remain possible in the afternoon.
PDMA has warned of potential landslides in hilly areas like Kohistan and Shangla due to the combined impact of rain and melting snow.
