KHYBER: Tribal elders of the Koki Khel tribe have announced their full support for the nominated Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, and have strongly condemned the controversial statement of Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar.

Addressing a crowded press conference held at Jamrud Press Club, Malik Haji Abdul Manan Madukhel, Haji Barak Torkhel, Malik Yousuf Madukhel, Yasin Torkhel, and other leading elders said that Imran Khan’s nomination of Sohail Afridi for the slot of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a positive and historic decision. This move will not only pave the way for redressing the deprivations of the tribal people, but will also allow a tribal youth to lead the province for the first time.

The elders said that Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar has actually insulted the entire tribal people by calling Sohail Afridi a terrorist. They said that Sohail Afridi is a patriotic, educated, and democratic minded politician, who has always spoken about the supremacy of the constitution and law.

The elders demanded that Atta Tarar immediately apologize for his “irresponsible and provocative statement”, as it has caused great anger and resentment among the tribal people. The speakers said that Imran Khan has proven that his party is a true democratic party, where people belonging to the poor and middle classes can also reach high positions. The Koki Khel elders demanded that all stakeholders refrain from any kind of conspiracies and not obstruct the appointment of Sohail Afridi as the Chief Minister. They made it clear that the tribal people will not allow any conspiracy against their leader to succeed.

Finally, the elders congratulated Sohail Afridi on being nominated for the slot of Chief Minister and thanked Chairman Imran Khan for taking a historic step towards ending the sense of deprivation of the tribal people.
