PESHAWAR: The Special Accountability Court Peshawar has sent the arrested Operations Officer of a private bank in Dasu, involved in the Kohistan financial scandal, to jail on judicial remand, on Wednesday.

The case related to the Kohistan scandal was heard by Accountability Judge Muhammad Zafar. The accused was presented in court, where the NAB prosecutor and investigating officer appeared.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that the accused, Hiraq Shah, is an Operations Officer at a private bank in Dasu, who opened various bank accounts using fake documents. One account had a transaction of 149.470 million rupees, while another account had a transaction of 236.585 million rupees.

The investigation with the accused is complete, and there is no need for further physical remand.  The court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.

Similarly, in pursuance of the directions of the Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court, all learned District & Sessions Judges, along with Judicial Magistrates, conducted special visits to jails across the Province ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, 2026. The purpose of these visits was to ensure expeditious disposal of cases of petty nature, in accordance with law.

During the course of these visits, 378 cases involving minor offences were disposed of. Consequently, 422 prisoners involved in such cases were extended legal relief and ordered to be released from various jails.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the judiciary to uphold the rule of law, ensure timely dispensation of justice, and extend relief to deserving individuals, particularly on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Chief Justice has been pleased to appreciate the efforts of all judicial officers for their diligence and dedication in undertaking this exercise, which has also contributed towards alleviating overcrowding in prisons.
