KOHAT: A major development has emerged in the murder case of Dr. Mehwish in Kohat, as police have identified the suspects involved in the killing.

According to a private news channel report, District Police Officer (DPO) Shehbaz Elahi said that multiple locations are being searched by police to capture the wanted criminals. He mentioned that police officers will make their arrests within a short period. The city implemented heightened security measures which established checkpoints at all entry and exit locations.

The DPO assured that the victim’s family will be provided full justice and that the case will be taken to its logical conclusion.

The Young Doctors Association conducted a general body meeting about the incident. Doctors, paramedics, and nursing staff attended the meeting and decided that all elective services at government hospitals in Kohat would remain suspended today. Private clinics will also remain closed.

The emergency departments and OPDs will experience continued protests which will require the community to attend in support.

ANP condemns the brutal murder of Dr Mehwish in Kohat

Earlier, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the Provincial President of the Awami National Party, expressed his deep sadness over the brutal murder of Dr Mehwish, who was returning home from duty in Kohat.

He asserted that targeting a caregiver on their way home reflects a moral failure in society. The Awami National Party strongly condemns this tragic incident and extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Hussain noted that this is not the first instance of violence against doctors and medical staff in the province.

The Awami National Party is in close communication with fellow doctors regarding this incident and is committed to advocating for justice for Dr Mehwish at every available forum.

He highlighted that doctors and medical staff are already working under limited resources and immense pressure, making their safety the primary responsibility of the state and the government.

He urged the provincial government and relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent and prompt investigation into the incident and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
