PESHAWAR: Khyber Police recorded an increase in the crime rate this year compared to last year of 2024, as a total of 690 cases were registered, while in 2025, 1589 cases have been registered this year and 1603 accused have been arrested, which has recorded 899 cases more than last year.
Similarly, a continuous increase in motorcycle and mobile phone snatching and other thefts has been observed, which the Khyber Police has failed to prevent, including the major HBL robbery. However, no significant progress has been made in the bank robbery case so far. Khyber Police has released its performance report for the current year, according to which the merged districts have the highest number of operations against drugs and illegal weapons, and drugs and weapons worth millions of rupees have been recovered.
According to the report, Khyber Police conducted effective search and strike operations against drugs and illegal weapons in the merged districts, during which a large quantity of drugs and illegal weapons were recovered and important accused were arrested.
According to the report, a total of 1589 cases were registered across the district, while more than 1603 suspects were arrested. The drugs recovered during the arrests included 3782 kilograms of hashish, 416 kilograms of opium, 746 kilograms of ice, 355 kilograms of heroin, 179 litres of alcohol, 21,898 ecstasy pills, and 203 kilograms of chemicals. Several drug factories were also sealed.
Similarly, the weapons recovered in the operations against illegal weapons include 6 mortar shells, 17 RPG seven shells, 58 Kalashnikovs, 172 pistols, 245 kg of ammunition, 119 hand grenades, 251 magazines, and 8108 cartridges of different bores. Similarly, a continuous increase in theft and motorcycle theft incidents was recorded this year. In this regard, contacts were made with the relevant police officials to find out the exact data about the theft incidents, but no data has been shared to date.
However, according to media reports, dozens of theft incidents have taken place in the year 2025, with motorcycle snatching being the top reported cases. In this regard, DPO Waqar Ahmed said that an effective self-accountability system is prevalent in Khyber Police, good performance is appreciated, while departmental action is taken against negligence or negligence.
He clarified that police operations will be further intensified to eradicate drugs, illegal weapons, and crime, and the protection of public life and property will be ensured at all costs.
