The 35th National Games, held in Karachi, have concluded with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes delivering outstanding performances and winning a total of 69 medals.
The province secured 5 gold, 18 silver, and 46 bronze medals, finishing eighth overall and third among the provinces.
Details of the medal tally reveal that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes won one gold and 5 bronze medals in karate, along with one gold, two silver, and 5 bronze medals in judo. In bodybuilding, they achieved one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while sailing brought in one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. In table tennis, the province earned one gold and two bronze medals.
In taekwondo, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured five silver and nine bronze medals, while in fencing, they won two silver and two bronze medals. The squash events resulted in two silver and one bronze medal, and wushu brought in one silver and two bronze medals. In boxing, they earned one silver and two bronze medals, along with four bronze medals in tennis and two bronze medals in badminton. Additionally, one bronze medal each was achieved in handball, baseball, weightlifting, kabaddi, wrestling, and athletics.
At the closing of the National Games, the Advisor on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Tarand, and the DG Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, congratulated the players, coaches, and officials for their remarkable performances. They commended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s improved medal count compared to the previous National Games, highlighting the positive progress and strength in the sports sector.
They emphasised the importance of learning from these successes and addressing shortcomings, urging that the results of the National Games should serve as a foundation for future improvement. By putting in more effort, dedication, and effective strategies, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes are expected to perform even better in the upcoming National Games, bringing pride to the country and its people.
For reference, in the 34th National Games held in Quetta in 2023, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured a total of 49 medals, consisting of four gold, six silver, and 39 bronze medals.
