PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to pay examination fees for students of grades 9 to 12 in government schools.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has taken an important decision for students studying in government schools and has proposed to pay the examination fees for grades 9 to 12 at the government level.
A summary in this regard has been sent to the Chief Minister for approval.
According to sources, lakhs of students of grades 9 to 12 in government schools across the province will benefit. This move will put an additional financial burden of about Rs 3.4 billion annually on the provincial government; however, students and their parents will get complete relief from paying the fees.
Under the current system, each education board collects about Rs 2,500 as examination fee per student from grades 9 to 12.
After the proposed approval, this fee will not be collected from the students but will be paid directly by the government.
However, sources say that the government will pay the fee for each student only once. If a student fails the exam in the ninth grade, he will have to pay the fees for the same grade again. However, in case of success, the government will also pay the fees for the tenth to twelfth grades.
