ISLAMABAD — Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized political figures who he claims are “desperate for power,” accusing them of undermining Pakistan’s national interests in their pursuit of political gain.

In a series of posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Asif responded to comments made by the sister of the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who had recently given an interview to Indian media.

Asif, who was commenting on the interview, remarked that certain political figures were “suffering” because the government’s welfare programs, such as the sewing machine distribution, had been suspended. He suggested that, instead of engaging with foreign media, these figures should “fight Pakistan’s political battles within Pakistan” and refrain from “sitting in the enemy’s lap.” He further urged them to “demonstrate maturity” and avoid actions that could be construed as “anti-national.”

In his remarks, Asif also defended Pakistan’s military leadership, particularly Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with the leadership of the Air Force and Navy. He recalled the military’s actions six months ago, where, according to him, Pakistan’s forces “delivered a strong response to India,” with Allah’s blessing. Asif alluded to remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had referred to the loss of seven Indian aircraft in an exchange of fire, stating that Trump’s comments had “humiliated” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Asif expressed that the notion of being a “radical Islamist” or “Islamic conservative” for showing love for Pakistan and its values was a label wrongly applied to “250 million Pakistanis.” He stated that the true essence of patriotism lies in upholding the sovereignty of Pakistan, and anyone who criticizes this is not only undermining the nation but also its core beliefs.

Finally, Asif made a pointed remark about the potential for future conflict with India, suggesting that if India were to again impose a conflict on Pakistan, the response would be resolute and unyielding, adding that “God willing, we will take action with the same resolve.”

His comments reflect the growing political tensions in Pakistan, where internal divisions are often exacerbated by the country’s complex relationship with neighboring India.
