PESHAWAR: Qaiser Iqbal, the key accused and Head Clerk of C&W Department Dasu, Kohistan, has filed a plea bargain request with the Accountability Court, in the Kohistan mega corruption case, confirmed sources at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

According to NAB officials, complete records of Qaiser Iqbal’s bank accounts and assets of billions of rupees have been put before the court. The accused is said to be suffering from severe medical conditions such as heart disease, lung complications, and cancer, and is undergoing treatment at Abbottabad Medical Complex.

Sources also report that Qaiser Iqbal submitted the plea bargain request because of his failing health. In his application, he has asked NAB to dispose of the case through a plea bargain, showing a readiness to subject himself to a thorough audit of his assets and financial documents.

NAB sources also revealed that the accused is willing to repay the whole liability, and during investigations, it has been found that he owns more than Rs. 10 billion worth of assets and bank deposits. The bureau is reviewing the plea and is likely to approve the application in the next two days.

This is a landmark step in one of the largest public sector corruption cases in the region and may be followed by more revelations about financial mismanagement in government departments in Kohistan.
