A key accused in the Kohistan corruption scandal has fled abroad, which has further increased the suspense and questions in the case.
According to NAB sources, action is being taken to bring back the absconding accused through Interpol. Sources said that so far 36 people, including the main accused Qaiser Iqbal, have been arrested in this scandal, while efforts are underway to arrest 6 other accused involved in the scandal. According to NAB, more than 4 of the arrested accused have also submitted plea bargain applications, and the bank accounts and assets of 36 accused have been frozen.
It should be noted that this corruption scandal is related to the looting of the national treasury worth Rs 40 billion, which came to light between 2019 and December 2024 during the PTI government. The scandal involved the collusion of government officials, contractors and bank officials, who siphoned off billions of rupees through fake companies and forged documents.
NAB sources said that the deportation of the absconding accused has further highlighted the seriousness of the case and the damage done to the national exchequer. Officials have said that the immediate return of the accused will be ensured through Interpol so that he can be brought to justice.
After the case came to light, there has been a strong reaction from the public and political circles and it is being emphasized that any attempt to evade the law should be foiled at all costs. The Kohistan corruption scandal is still in the investigation stage and NAB has announced that action will continue against all those involved without discrimination.
