Kashmiris living across the globe observing the “Right to Self-Determination Day” today with full determination.
The purpose of this day is to remind the international community and especially the United Nations of the promise made in 1949 under which Kashmiris were given the right to decide their future through a referendum.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated their commitment to continue their moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris.
In his message, the Prime Minister said that the path to lasting peace in South Asia lies only in a just resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Major rallies and seminars are being organized in all district headquarters including the capital of Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad.
A torchlight rally was also held in Muzaffarabad late at night, in which participants demanded that the international community stop Indian atrocities.
Kashmiri leaders and civil society are presenting protest memoranda at the office of the United Nations Military Observer Mission (UNMOGIP) in Muzaffarabad to draw the attention of the international body to the implementation of its resolutions.
77 years ago today, on January 5, 1949, the United Nations Commission on India and Pakistan (UNCIP) passed a historic resolution. The key points of this resolution were the future of the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be decided according to the will of the Kashmiri people.
This decision will be made through a free and impartial plebiscite.
The United Nations will be the guarantor of monitoring the entire process. The gravity of the current situation
According to the news, the Kashmiri leadership has expressed concern that:
India has tried to change the demographic situation of occupied Kashmir through the unilateral measures of August 5, 2019.
The grave human rights violations and continued detention of political leaders in the occupied valley are a major challenge to the global conscience.
Today is not just a formal day for Kashmiris but a renewal of the pledge that they will continue their struggle until they get their fundamental right.
