KARACHI: An SMD screen owned by a private company in Karachi was reportedly hacked on Wednesday, resulting in the display of explicit content, triggering public concern and prompting an investigation by authorities.
According to sources in the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the incident appears to be the result of a cyber intrusion. Initial findings suggest that the hackers may be linked to a political party; however, officials stressed that this aspect is still under investigation, and no conclusion has been reached so far.
Authorities said the hacked screen was immediately shut down after the incident came to light. NCCIA has launched a detailed inquiry to trace the source of the hack, identify those responsible, and determine the motive behind the cyberattack.
Officials added that further investigations are underway and action will be taken in accordance with the law once responsibility is established. The private company concerned has also been asked to cooperate fully with investigators and strengthen its cybersecurity systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
