KARACHI: Due to escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz arising from the ongoing conflict in Iran, Karachi Port has emerged as a crucial safe hub for international maritime trade. Shipping companies have begun rerouting their vessels to this vital port to avoid the increasingly dangerous waters of the Strait.

The increase in maritime traffic is evident, with the port experiencing a significant rise in transshipment volumes. In just the past 24 days, Karachi Port has processed 8,860 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), already exceeding the expected total of 8,300 TEUs for the entire year of 2025.

The port’s strategic location and enhanced security measures have made it the preferred destination for container ships navigating the region’s volatile seas, as companies seek more reliable and secure routes for global trade.
