KARACHI: Severe rain and strong winds have caused significant destruction in Karachi. As a result, 17 people have died, and many have been injured in different incidents, according to reports from different authorities.
Heavy rains and strong winds were reported in different areas of Karachi, such as North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani, F.B. Area, Saddar, and Clifton. In addition, other areas that were affected include Cantt, Railway Colony, Delhi Colony, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulshan Jamal, and Garden. Thunder and lightning were also reported during the rain. In different areas, there were power outages right after the rain started.
According to reports from the Meteorological Department, the wind speeds were 90 km/h on Shahrah Faisal and 97 km/h in Mauripur. Trees fell during the rain, which disrupted the flow of traffic in different areas. In Clifton, near the driving license branch, a tree fell on two people. In addition, a billboard fell on Tipu Sultan Road in Muhammad Ali Society.
The area that suffered the most damage is Baldia Mach Goth. In this area, the wall collapse resulted in 11 deaths and three people injured.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted no further rain overnight, but showers may resume after noon today with gusty winds, lightning, and occasional hail in some areas. Light rain is also expected on the first day of Eid, while western disturbances may trigger rainfall in Karachi and across Sindh from March 24 to 27.
