ISLAMABAD: Justice Tariq Jahangiri expresses no confidence in CJ Sarfaraz Dogar’s bench and states that this is a case of conflict of interest, and the Chief Justice cannot sit in this bench.

“I am swearing and placing my hand on the Quran and stating that my degree is genuine,” he remarked. He added that this is a case of conflict of interest; you cannot sit against me in this case. I object that you should not hear this case. Justice Tariq Jahangiri expresses no confidence in Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar’s bench. Justice Tariq Jahangiri’s degree dispute case was heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, during which Justice Tariq Jahangiri and the lawyer of the Islamabad Bar Association appeared in the court.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that the honourable judge has come; I only have to hear Jahangiri. Justice Tariq Jahangiri said that I received the notice on Thursday, there is not even a copy of the petition with the notice; it is a 34-year-old case, give me time to get a copy of the petition. Justice Tariq Jahangiri raised an objection to Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Sarfaraz Dogar sitting on the bench, to which the Chief Justice said, “You are also a judge, I am also a judge, I filed a petition against you.”

Justice Tariq Jahangiri said that this is a conflict of interest, you cannot sit against me in this case, I object that you should not hear this case, the writ of warrant is never heard by the division bench, it is heard by the single bench, you have also stopped me from doing judicial work which has never happened before in the history of the court, in this way, even a peon is not stopped from working. The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court remarked that you will get justice just like anyone else.

He said that even in a murder case, an indictment is filed after 7 days, you gave only 3 days’ notice, you should not do this in the writ of warrant, if you set this judicial precedent, it will have devastating effects. Justice Tariq Jahangiri said that I swear by placing my hand on the Holy Quran and knowing Allah as the witness that my degree is genuine, the university did not say that the degree is fake, and they did not issue it.

While talking to the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Tariq Jahangiri said, that I do not trust your bench. If the case has to be heard, then send it to another bench. I should also be given some time. The Islamabad High Court summoned the Registrar of Karachi University along with the record and directed Justice Tariq Jahangiri to provide the petition and all relevant documents and adjourned the hearing of the case till Thursday, December 18.
