The Ministry of Law and Justice has confirmed that the positions of both judges have been declared vacant following this approval, which has resulted in a reduction in the number of judges on the Supreme Court.

Just yesterday, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, two important and senior judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, resigned from their roles. They were recognised as active and influential members of the country’s higher judiciary.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah stated that the recent constitutional amendment has dealt a serious blow to the spirit of democracy. He emphasised that as a judge, he consistently made decisions aimed at upholding the constitution and law; however, the current situation is undermining the independence of the judiciary.

Justice Athar Minallah also resigned and is reported to have expressed strong concerns about the recent constitutional amendment.

The Law Ministry will issue a notification soon with further details regarding future appointments.
