ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) has postponed its scheduled protest march in Islamabad as per a request made by the government. The JUI-F’s decision was taken considering the ongoing negotiations being held between Iran and the US along with other countries.
It is in a message to the leader of the JUI-F faction, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that there was unity between the government and the army about keeping peace during negotiations. It was through a delegation from the government, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry that the leader was consulted over the matter.
At the meeting, the government asked JUI-F to defer its planned protest since it would be unwise to stage a protest under such circumstances. Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman told the delegation that soaring petrol prices had resulted in unrest amongst citizens and that he was demanding a reduction in the prices as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the government delegation assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman that the prices of petrol will be reduced within days.
However, after consultations, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has decided to put off all protests throughout Pakistan. But it has been stated by the political party that JUI-F will organize a big public meeting in Mardan on 12th April, wherein the political party will announce their plans regarding their future.
The political experts have also said that the political party has taken such a step to avoid political tensions in the country and for the sake of national interests. Since there are various delegations from other countries, such as the US and Iran, arriving soon in Islamabad, this step seems quite appropriate.
