PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam(JUI) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehaman opposed the 27th constitutional amendment and said that those laws would be unacceptable to them, being enacted against the Quran and Sunnah.

Addressing the Press Conference, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the basic structure of the constitution has been changed, and this would not be acceptable to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. He said that he was not expecting Shehbaz Sharif to take these measures against the spirit of the constitution.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly criticized the government, saying that the popularity of the current government among the people is rapidly declining and several decisions in the country’s politics have been taken against the values of parliament and democracy.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he had great expectations from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take the right decisions in the interest of the country, but these expectations have not been fulfilled by his government. He said that legislation in the country should be in accordance with the constitution, and laws should be prepared in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah so that Sharia principles are protected.

He further said that no one has seriously thought about the impact of Sharia decisions in Pakistan, saying that some amendments may be used for specific interests instead of the interests of the people. Maulana Fazlur Rehman also appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari not to take personal or political advantage of this amendment.
