The joint opposition has announced to stage sit in outside parliament house on Friday qqafter news about the health and eyesight of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The political situation in the country has once again become tense after it was revealed that the eyesight of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s right eye has reduced by 85%.
The joint opposition has decided to hold a protest sit-in in front of Parliament House today (Friday) after Friday prayers against the alleged medical negligence by the government.
According to a recent report submitted to the Supreme Court, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has been diagnosed with “Central Retinal Vein Occlusion” (CRVO) in his right eye. The report states that due to lack of timely treatment, his eyesight in his right eye has now reduced to only 15%. Imran Khan’s personal doctors and family members have expressed fears that he may lose his sight permanently if immediate and expert medical assistance is not provided.
A decision to protest was taken at an important consultative meeting of opposition parties from the platform of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain Pakistan (TTAP). The meeting was attended by leaders including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Asad Qaiser, Barrister Gohar, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.
The opposition has announced that all members of the assembly and senators will stage a dharna at the main gate of Parliament after Friday prayers today.
The opposition demands that Imran Khan be given immediate access to his personal doctor, be shifted to Shaukat Khanum Hospital, and complete transparency regarding his health.
The PTI leadership has also directed all party ticket holders and workers to reach Islamabad, while a call for a shutter-down strike has also been given across the country on Sunday (February 8).
On the other hand, the Supreme Court, taking notice of the seriousness of the situation, has ordered the formation of a special medical board, which will conduct a complete examination of the PTI founder by February 16 and submit a detailed report to the court. The Chief Justice remarked that the safety of the life and health of the prisoner is the responsibility of the state.
Government ministers have termed these reports as an attempt to give a political color. The Information Minister says that Imran Khan is being provided with all necessary medical facilities in jail and expert doctors from PIMS Hospital are examining him.
