Fawad, one of three former PTI leaders engaged in a political outreach initiative, said they have been in contact with the party’s incarcerated leadership to end confrontational politics.
As part of this effort, they visited PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a Lahore hospital last Thursday, after he was transferred from prison, to encourage him to join their campaign. However, Qureshi reportedly rejected the proposal.
Speaking on private TV program Fawad stated that Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, Yasmin Rashid, and Mehmood ur Rasheed all jailed following action over the May 9, 2023, had sent a letter outlining their stance.
He added that he had met with Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Rasheed on several occasions. Fawad also noted that those who had not visited the jailed PTI members found this development surprising.
Fawad also stressed only Qureshi, Ejaz, Rasheed, and another PTI leader Omer Cheema, could talk to Imran as they have a stature. He said other leaders in the party were also fairly good, but there is distance between them and Imran.
He said first, political temperatures had to be brought down, for which the government may take a step forward and the PTI a step backward.
