ISLAMABAD: The first round of talks between the United States and Iran has been completed in Islamabad after fourteen hours of heated discussion, according to Iranian sources.

It should be noted that both sides had the opportunity to exchange drafts despite certain disagreements. At the same time, the Iranians noted that the talks would continue since attempts to solve these problems would be made.

The Iranian government reported that the talks would continue on Sunday, after a short break. Both sides agreed to continue the talks under the proposal of Pakistan to do so. After all, the representatives of the two countries agreed that additional talks were needed to resolve certain technical and political questions.

The Iranian media reported that despite certain progress achieved in the Islamabad talks, it is still necessary to discuss several questions in greater detail at the technical level. It should be mentioned that specialists noted that subsequent negotiations will be dedicated to solving certain issues left over from the first round of talks.

One of the most critical issues raised by the Iranian delegates was that concerning Lebanon and the need for a total ceasefire which still remains an unfulfilled demand. Iran believes that the onus to exert pressure on Israel to honor its promise lies with the US alone. The Iranian delegates have continuously brought up this matter very seriously in front of the Pakistani negotiators.
