ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has ordered the formation of a new medical board for the examination of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The board is directed to work under the supervision of the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, with the inclusion of Dr Nadeem Qureshi, to ensure a transparent and comprehensive process.
During the proceedings, the public prosecutor maintained that the jail administration is providing all necessary medical facilities and that Khan’s health is under continuous monitoring by resident staff.
Following the conclusion of arguments from both sides, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir reserved the verdict, later clarifying that a fresh, complete medical examination must be conducted and the subsequent report submitted to the court and relevant authorities.
The court further instructed the medical board to stay in contact with Khan’s family to keep them informed throughout the process.
Regarding the defence’s request to transfer the former prime minister to a private hospital on humanitarian grounds, the court stated that a decision would be made after reviewing the medical board’s findings to gain a clear picture of his condition.
While his lawyers argued that jail facilities are inadequate for his specific health issues, the Advocate General of Islamabad informed the court that Khan’s current health status is satisfactory.
