The Israeli army is facing a severe manpower shortage, which has raised concerns that its operational capacity will be affected. The top military leadership has warned that if immediate measures are not taken, the army could be weakened from within.
Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir has warned that the army could ‘disintegrate on its own’ due to increasing pressure and manpower shortage. According to media reports, he said at a security cabinet meeting on Wednesday that he was waving 10 danger flags in front of you.
He said that the pressure on the army is increasing due to the ongoing fighting on various fronts, and a time may soon come when it will not be able to fulfill even its normal responsibilities. Eyal Zamir stressed the need for urgent legislation to address the situation, including a law on compulsory conscription, a law on reserve duty, and a law extending the period of compulsory military service.
This warning from the Israeli military leadership shows that the shortage of manpower during ongoing conflicts is becoming a major challenge, which could affect the country’s security strategy in the future.
