TEHRAN: Supreme Leader of Iran Mojtaba Khamenei said that Iran does not want war but would not give up its rights. This came amid escalating tension in the region and ahead of the US-Iran negotiations, which are set to begin in Islamabad.

According to Iranian official media outlets, the Iranian Supreme Leader said, “We are still waiting for an adequate answer from our southern neighbours to prove our brotherhood.” Furthermore, he stressed that the participation of the citizens in the demonstrations would continue just as it has for the last 40 days. In addition, he noted that they would elevate their management of the Strait of Hormuz to another level.

These important statements were made against the backdrop of the upcoming US-Iran negotiations slated to take place next week in Islamabad following the recent ceasefire accord between both countries.

Pakistan prevented Iran reaction to ceasefire violation: Iran Deputy Foreign Minister

Earlier, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister has said that Iran was very close to retaliating for the ceasefire violation last night, but Pakistan’s timely intervention changed the situation.

According to the British news agency Sky News, Iranian officials say that they were about to give a strong response to the provocation last night when Pakistan intervened at the diplomatic level and stopped Iran.

According to the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Iran stopped its immediate response due to Pakistan’s active role. It should be noted that this statement has come at a time when Pakistan’s mediation efforts to reduce tensions in the region are being appreciated internationally.

According to the details of this report, last night, the tension between Iran and the United States had reached a point where Iran was about to launch a military response at any moment however, Pakistan’s top leadership and diplomatic officials intervened immediately and persuaded Tehran to refrain from this move.

The ground was being paved for indirect talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. According to the British agency ‘Sky News’, Iran was fully prepared to respond after the alleged provocation or ceasefire violation last night, but Pakistani officials made emergency contacts with the Iranian leadership and convinced them that any retaliation could sabotage peace talks in Islamabad and efforts for a possible permanent ceasefire.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister has admitted that Pakistan played an active role as a “facilitator” and “mediator”, due to which the region was saved from a major catastrophe. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also played a key role in extending the deadline set by US President Donald Trump and a temporary two-week ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance.
