Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have shot down a US F-15 jet fighter during counter attack operation in the Southwestern region of Iran.
The Revolutionary Guards’ statement said that the Aerospace Force’s new air defence system targeted a US F-15 Strike Eagle on Thursday in the south-western region of Iran. According to Iranian officials, this two-seat multi-role strike fighter plane crashed near Iran’s southwestern border.
The statement said that the US and Israel launched a wide-ranging military campaign against Iran after the assassination of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
Iran says the campaign targeted both military and civilian targets, causing widespread casualties and destruction. In response, the Iranian armed forces retaliated by launching missiles and drones at US and Israeli targets, including in Israeli-occupied territories and other countries in the region.
Iranian officials said the attacks were a response to ongoing military operations against Iran. However, this claim has not been independently verified.
