TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has rejected proposals put forward by two countries to help calm tensions between Iran and the United States. This comes after a high-level foreign policy meeting, where Khamenei dismissed the proposals immediately, according to sources.
According to reports, Khamenei said that this is not the time to talk of peace between Iran and the United States. “We must defeat the United States and Israel,” Khamenei said, according to sources, as Iran sticks to its long-held stance against America and Israel.
From sources, it is also clear that Khamenei also demanded that America should compensate Iran for the damages it claims to have suffered as a result of America’s actions against it in the recent past. This is a clear indication that Iran is sticking to its hardline stance regarding America.
This comes at a time when there is a lot of tension between Iran and America, which has seen a series of confrontations between them in the recent past. This has been despite the efforts being made to have talks between the two. Khamenei’s words are a clear indication that Iran is sticking to its hardline stance regarding America.
Trump accuses allies of abandoning the US in Strait of Hormuz crisis
Earlier, US President Donald Trump has expressed frustration with NATO and other allied countries for not assisting in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global oil shipments.
Talking to the media, Trump explained his concern about Iran’s growing strength while he described Iran’s potential nuclear weapons development as a major global security threat.
Trump stated, “If Iran had an atomic bomb, they would use it against us. If they acquire nuclear weapons, they could attack Israel and the Middle East within hours.” He declared that Iran uses violence as its primary method to achieve its goal of Middle Eastern control while he requested worldwide partners to stop Tehran from developing nuclear capabilities.
The president also criticized NATO allies, stating that they had failed to support the US when it was most needed. Trump described the assistance during the Strait of Hormuz incident as non-existent because NATO had supported the United States but failed to provide the necessary help. He reported that the UK planned to send fighter jets after the battle reached its conclusion but he did not require their assistance anymore.
Trump announced in his speech that NATO required US financial support totalling billions, while the US received no backing during the present emergency. “We’ve destroyed Iran’s leadership, navy, and air force. Iranian hostilities have blocked the Abraham Accords from advancing,” he said about the diplomatic initiative which aims to establish normal relations between Israel and Arab countries.
Trump said that multiple countries refused to help protect the Strait of Hormuz because the United States had previously assisted them with protection. He also mentioned reaching out to China, Japan, South Korea, and other nations for further support.
The president concluded by stating that the regime in Iran was effectively dismantled, with US forces having sunk the boats laying mines in the strait and wiped out Iran’s air and naval defenses. “I believe the new Supreme Leader of Iran is already gone, and there’s no leadership left in Iran capable of negotiating. Will the war end this week? I can’t say yet, but it will end soon,” Trump said.
Trump also signed an executive order for the Anti-Fraud Task Force during the briefing.
