Iran’s Permanent Representative, Amir-Saeid Iravani, spoke at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, stating that the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran are considered war crimes and represent a serious violation of the UN Charter.
Irvani noted that civilians, including over 100 children, in the city of Manab, have been killed due to these attacks. He made it clear that the US and Israel bear responsibility for the deaths of innocent people.
He expressed gratitude for the support and condemnation from Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, and Pakistan, emphasizing that these attacks should be viewed as a declaration of war. He stressed that Iran has the right to defend itself under international law.
In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have warned of severe counterattacks on Israel and US military bases.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the escalating situation, condemning US and Israeli aggression towards Iran.
He stated that Iran’s response is affecting the entire region and highlighted the necessity for a peaceful resolution, urging all parties to come to the negotiating table. Guterres also expressed regret over missed diplomatic opportunities regarding Iran.
At the meeting, Iran’s Permanent Representative thanked Pakistan, China, and Russia for supporting Iran’s position by voting in favor of it at the UN and taking a strong stance against external pressure.
