Iran offers mediation amid escalating Pak-Afghan border hostilities and the recent spate of tensions on the Pak-Afghan border that has escalated into a full-scale war, with the Pakistan Army giving a strong, effective and exemplary response to the Afghan Taliban’s continued and unprovoked aggression, shattering the enemy’s pride.
The Iranian Foreign Office has expressed concern in its statement that this clash between two Islamic neighbouring countries could jeopardize the stability of the entire region, so both sides should immediately cease hostilities and sit at the negotiating table. Iran’s position is that this ongoing bloodshed on the border will only strengthen terrorist elements, so it is ready to play the role of a facilitator as a brotherly country.
Pakistan’s political and military leadership has been very ambivalent in this regard. Defense and security officials say that Pakistan’s silence should not be interpreted as weakness; if Pakistani posts or civilians are targeted from Afghan soil, the response will be delivered to Kabul and Kandahar. On the other hand, the Taliban leadership in Kabul is currently under severe pressure because on the one hand they are facing heavy casualties and financial losses on the border and on the other hand, international isolation and pressure from forces like Tehran are increasing. Now the ball is in Kabul’s court whether they change their policy by accepting Iran’s offer of talks or choose to face the iron fist of the Pakistan Army further.
According to the latest information received from security sources, in response to the cross-border provocation, the Pakistani Armed Forces launched a comprehensive defensive operation under “Operation Ghazb-ul-Haq”, which has shaken the military structure of the Afghan Taliban.
During this operation, the Pakistan Army made unreserved and highly accurate use of modern artillery, gunship helicopters and quadcopters. In these intelligence-based attacks, more than 27 important strategic posts of the Afghan Taliban were targeted, which have been completely reduced to rubble. Security sources claim that the Afghan Taliban have suffered extraordinary casualties in these operations, in which more than 133 fighters have been confirmed killed and hundreds injured so far.
This decisive strike by Pakistani forces has broken the enemy’s nerves, which is clearly evidenced by the Afghan Taliban hoisting white flags on their posts at various points along the border. These white flags are a sign that the Afghan forces have admitted their defeat and have requested to surrender and stop further action.
After this serious situation on the battlefield, Tehran has immediately stepped into the diplomatic arena to preserve regional peace. Iran has invited Islamabad and Kabul for regular talks and has offered to mediate in this fresh tension.
