TEHRAN: Iran’s police chief, Ahmad Reza has announced that the authorities have arrested 500 individuals on charges of providing sensitive information to enemies.

According to Reza, half of the cases against the arrested individuals are of a serious nature, involving people who supplied information to target specific locations or sent videos of attack sites.

The Tasnim News Agency reported on the arrests which provincial prosecutors confirmed by announcing the detention of 20 people who transmitted intelligence about Iran’s military and security facilities to Israel.

The agency quoted the authorities as saying that 10 more people were arrested for allegedly gathering intelligence on protected locations and vital economic infrastructure.

The latest round of arrests takes place at a time when tensions in the region are running high due to the belief that foreign nations are operating in the country to destabilize it.

Abbas Araghchi: US asking other nations to protect Strait of Hormuz

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that the United States is seeking assistance from other countries to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.

In his statement, shared on social media, Araghchi said that the US president had requested various nations, including China, to provide naval vessels to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that the security umbrella provided by the US has become weak and ineffective. Iran has also renewed its demand for the removal of foreign forces from the region.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that the tensions in the Middle East are being caused by the policies of Israel.
