In the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, India qualified for the final for the second consecutive time by defeating England by just 7 runs after an exciting match.
In this semi-final being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, England won the toss and invited India to bat first. Defending champions and home team India, batting first, scored 253 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Opener Sanju Samson played a smoky innings of 89 runs off 42 balls, Shom Dube scored 43, Ishan Kishan scored 39, Hardik Pandya scored 27, Tilak Verma scored 21, and Suryakumar Yadav scored 11. All England’s bowlers proved to be expensive; however, according to the wicket column, Adil Rashid and Will Jacks stood out by taking two wickets each, while Jofra Archer took one wicket.
It should be noted that in the first semi-final of the event, New Zealand defeated South Africa by 9 wickets to make it to the final. In pursuit of the target, England’s experienced players could not show much performance, but young Jacob Bethell tried his best to make the target of 254 runs easy for his team.
Bethell returned to the pavilion after playing an innings of 105 runs in the last over. Will Jacks scored 35, and Jos Buttler scored 25 runs. Almost all the bowlers from India were expensive in terms of runs, but Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets, while Bumrah, Arsdeep, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel took one wicket each. Sanju Samson was declared the player of the match for playing a great innings. It should be noted that India has reached the final of the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka also have the honor of playing the final twice in a row.
The final of the event will be played between India and New Zealand at the Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on March 8.
