RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan’s sisters were released by police near Chakri after a short detention during the protest. The sisters were among the supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who had come together to ask for a meeting with the ex-Prime Minister. The police released them after a short time in custody, and the situation was controlled without any further escalation.
Earlier, the police arrested Imran Khan’s sisters and MNA Shahid Khattak while a protest of PTI outside Adiala Jail turned violent. The protestors, who had come to visit the ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, got their request turned down by the jail authorities which led to a wild demonstration.
Protestors who wanted to meet Imran Khan vowed to sit in outside the jail till the meeting was granted. Moreover, police attempts to resolve the issue through talks were unsuccessful. Consequently, the police sprayed water and drove the protestors out of the vicinity.
On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan nicely pointed out the role of negotiations by saying, “Though we still keep demanding a meeting and our fight continues, there is no alternative to negotiation.”
The situation outside Adiala Jail caused police to increase security measures to prevent any more violence from breaking out.
