PESHAWAR: The accountability court in Peshawar handed over the contractor arrested on charges of illegal mining to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a four-day remand.

Contractor Zargul Khan has been arrested on charges of illegal mining and was presented in the accountability court of Peshawar. Senior prosecutor Habibullah Baig and investigation officer SP Inayatullah were present during the hearing.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that Zargul Khan, along with several accomplices, engaged in illegal mining activities in the forests of Kakul from 2010 until July 2025. During this period, they extracted 141,879 metric tons of phosphate, resulting in a loss of Rs643.7 million to the national exchequer.

Additionally, the prosecutor revealed that evidence of Zargul Khan’s involvement in money laundering emerged during the investigation. Eight plots and three expensive vehicles were found registered in his name in Abbottabad.

The investigating officer requested the court to grant NAB physical remand of the accused for further investigation. The court accepted the request and handed Zargul Khan over to NAB for a period of four days.

Proceedings are also underway against Zargul Khan under the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2010. According to NAB, he has played a central role in the illegal mining activities.
