PESHAWAR: Peshawar has more than 100,000 bike riders but only a small number registered themselves for official records. The authorities revealed that only a few hundred bike riders from the provincial capital had completed their vehicle registration process.

The authorities will enforce strict legal consequences against motorcycle operators who fail to register their bikes while they will confiscate unregistered motorcycles to protect public safety.

The registration deadline for the city requires all riders to register their vehicles but yet thousands of riders have not completed their registration process. Unregistered motorcycles not only violate the law but are sometimes used to carry passengers to unsafe or criminal-prone areas.

Officials enforced motorcycle registration because terrorism threats require complete registration of all motorcycles to protect citizens and ensure security. The system will impose penalties on individuals who avoid registration which will result in vehicle confiscation and arrests.

Two police personnel arrested from Peshawar court

Earlier on February 9, a local court in Peshawar on Monday cancelled the interim bail applications of two police personnel involved in an alleged citizen murder case. Police took both accused into custody from the court.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Talha Muhammad on Monday heard the interim bail applications of police officers nominated in the case related to the death of a citizen in police custody.

During the hearing, the court rejected the interim bail applications of two police officers. Following the court’s order, police took both officers into custody from the courtroom.

According to the prosecution, the accused police officers, Matiullah and Saud Khan, were posted at the Safid Dher police post. The prosecution stated that the two officers detained an injured citizen on allegations of vehicle theft.

The detained citizen, identified as Muhammad Ijaz, a resident of Regi, later died in custody. The incident was investigated by a Judicial Magistrate.

After completion of the inquiry, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case against both police officers. Following the registration of the case, the accused approached the court seeking interim bail, which was rejected.

Police took both accused into custody after the court’s decision.
